PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY ADVENTURE SOUTHBOUND

This 2,800 kilometre (1,700 mile) all-paved Pacific Coast Highway motorcycle tour is a dream motorcycle trip along the West Coast of the United States. Start in Portland, Oregon, and ride the famed Pacific Coast Highway all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco.  A two-night stay in Tiburon near San Francisco will give you the opportunity to explore the city on your own or the surrounding area on two wheels. Continue on the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur and the Transverse Ranges all the way to Long Beach, California. Redwood forests, coastal scenery, and curves are the order of the day.

Road Conditions: This is a paved itinerary and features spectacular coastline riding mixed with delightful (and world-class) curves through old growth Redwoods and Sequoias.

THE ITINERARY

ARRIVAL DAY

DAY 1 - Arrival - Portland, Oregon

Today you arrive in Portland, Oregon to begin your motorcycle adventure. Check in to your hotel room and shake the dust off from travelling before meeting your fellow riders for a welcome dinner on us. Stay in Portland, Oregon.

DAY 2 - Portland, Oregon to Astoria, Oregon - 165 Kilometres (103 Miles)

Ride west out of Portland, Oregon along the Columbia River on your way to beautiful Astoria, Oregon's oldest city. Savour the trip's first taste of riding as the sun sets over the Astoria-Megler Bridge straddling the river mouth. Stay in Astoria.

DAY 3 - Astoria, Oregon to Florence, Oregon - 300 Kilometres (186 Miles)

Hook south from Astoria for your first crack at the majestic Oregon Coast, Highway 101's best-kept secret. Ride through mist-green forests and cliffside curves as brooks and rivers cascade down rocky slopes to the sea. Tonight we stop in Florence, Oregon, at the mouth of the Siuslaw River and the southern tip of the Oregon Dunes.

DAY 4 - Florence, Oregon to Eureka, California - 307 Kilometres (191 Miles)

Roll on through the old-growth forests of Oregon south towards the California border, stopping off at the historic Umpqua Lighthouse for a bit before running headlong into Redwood National Park. Stay in Eureka, California.

DAY 5 - Eureka, California to Mendocino, California - 280 Kilometres (173 Miles)

Today we cut inland from the coast for a ride down the famous Avenue of the Giants, a meandering ribbon through old-growth redwood trees fully deserving of their title. Hook back out to the coast for your first full hit of warm California sun along Highway 1 towards our overnight halt in Mendocino, California.

DAY 6 - Mendocino, California to Tiburon, California - 240 Kilometres (149 Miles)

Get a feel for the California coastline as we ride south along sheltered beaches and rolling blue waves. See the Moon Over Marin from a hotel balcony overlooking San Francisco Bay in Tiburon, California.

DAY 7 - Free Day in San Francisco Bay - Riding Optional, up to 300 Kilometres (186 Miles)

Today's itinerary is up to you: relax on the Tiburon Peninsula, pop across the bay to explore San Francisco, or get some more riding in on the quiet back roads north of town. Collect yourself in the heart of NorCal however you desire before embarking on the next leg of our journey. Stay in Tiburon.

DAY 8 - Tiburon, California to Morro Bay, California - 435 Kilometres (270 Miles)

The air is chill, and the morn grows late, as our bikes ride on through the Golden Gate. Today we continue on south through Monterey Bay and past Pebble Beach towards what is likely one of the most famous stretches of roadway on Earth: Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur. Marvel at the Bixby Creek Bridge, Ragged Point, and elephant seals lounging and jostling on the shoreline in view of Piedras Blancas Light Station as we make our way to tonight's halt in Morro Bay.

DAY 9 - Morro Bay, California to Ojai, California - 225 Kilometres (140 Miles)

Time to take a breather from the sea-salt air and spear inland for some serious sweepers. Head east through the Carrizo Plain- California's largest surviving natural grassland- on one of our favourite roads in SoCal, then wind south through tight and twisty Matilija Canyon in the Santa Ynez Mountains overlooking the Santa Barbara coastline. Bed down for the night in the mountain retreat of Ojai.

DAY 10 - Ojai, California to Long Beach, California - 185 Kilometres (115 Miles)

Emerge from Ojai into the Ventureño Chumash settlement of Humaliwo, perhaps more broadly known as starlet hamlet Malibu, California. See from the saddle the sparkling sands of some of the world's best-known beaches as we make our way into Santa Monica and through Los Angeles to our ultimate destination in Long Beach, California. Enjoy a farewell dinner tonight on us before bedding down in downtown Long Beach.

DAY 11 - Long Beach, California - Departure

Fly home, or stay awhile, and keep the dream alive. We'll see you next time!
