THE ITINERARY

ARRIVAL DAY

DAY 1 - Arrival Day - Christchurch

Welcome to Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island! Meander along the Avon River through the centre of town and take in the bucolic splendour of New Zealand's Garden City. Meet your fellow riders at a welcome dinner on us, then stay in Christchurch.

DAY 2 - Christchurch - Twizel

Kickstands up, we head east out of Christchurch for our first day of riding. Hug the foothills of the Four Peaks Range dominating the South Island landscape, then head up and through the Burkes Pass to Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. Watch the sun set over Mount Cook from our overnight halt in Twizel.

DAY 3 - Twizel - Dunedin

Depart Twizel on a zig-zag south-east run through the incomparable Lindis Pass and back down towards the eastern coast of the island. Our final destination tonight is Dunedin, the seat of New Zealand's oldest university and epicentre of culture and nightlife on the South Island. Get an early night's rest... or don't. Stay in Dunedin.

DAY 4 - Dunedin - Invercargill

Clear your head of rarefied air with a day of riding down near the coastline. Treat your lungs to that sweet salt air as we run 'twixt hill and vale to the southwest city of Invercargill, home town of the World's Fastest Indian, Burt Munro. Stay in Invercargill.

DAY 5 - Invercargill - Te Anau

Ride the backroads past scenic mountains and majestic farms to the shores of Lake Te Anau. Stay in Te Anau.

DAY 6 - Te Anau Free Day

Ride out to world renowned Milford Sound, perhaps jump on a boat for a bit to soak it all in. Ready for your jaw to be dropped? Stay in Te Anau.

DAY 7 - Te Anau - Queenstown

Charge up and through the South Island's mountainous interior near the shores of Lake Wakatipu. In addition to the spas and restaurants befitting a mountain resort retreat, Queenstown holds the crown as New Zealand's adventure sports capital! Stay in Queenstown.

DAY 8 - Queenstown Free Day

Enjoy a ride out to Glenorchy along Lake Wakatipu, amongst other fun riding options. Stay in Queenstown.

DAY 9 - Queenstown - Fox Glacier

Today's leg offers arguably the finest riding on the whole trip. Head east then north over Queenstown Hill on a sinuous track up the peaks and through the valleys of the Southern Alps mountain range. Thread the needle of Lake Hawea & Lake Wanaka and challenge the Haast Pass on your way to see the twin Fox & Franz Josef Glaciers on Mount Cook's northeastern slope. Catch your breath in the aptly-named town of Fox Glacier. Stay at Fox Glacier.

DAY 10 - Fox Glacier - Hamner Hot Springs

Roll on up and over Franz Josef Glacier on another winding wonder of a road down to and along the South Island's west coast before veering up and inland through the volcanically active Victoria Forest Park region. Slip out of your riding boots in the natural Hamner Hot Springs, because even the most hardcore roadrunners like a soak now and then. Stay at Hamner Hot Springs.

DAY 11 - Hanmer Hot Springs - Nelson

Follow along the Waiau River, past the Leslie Hills, down and onward to the sea. We'll spend the day riding the coast road up and around Tapuae-o-Uenuku, the South Island's northeastern peak, through coastal villages and northern forests to the golden beaches of Nelson. Stay in Nelson.

DAY 12 - Nelson Free Day

Go for a day loop with the guides, or take a breather in the lovely city of Nelson. Known for its art galleries, arts & crafts scene, local breweries, and natural splendor, Nelson also enjoys the most annual sunshine of any region on the South Island. Spend the day ambling about the town, riding, take on one of the region's many hiking trails, or simply relax on the beach! Stay in Nelson.

DAY 13- Nelson - Punakaiki

Today we trade Nelson's lazy leisure for the untamed wilderness of the South Island's West Coast region. Head southwest out of Nelson through open farmland, then over and along the Buller River through the mountains to the Tasman Sea. Stop for a walk out to the picturesque Pancake Rocks, and watch the sun set over the water in the small seaside village of Punakaiki. Stay in Punakaiki.

DAY 14 - Punakaiki - Christchurch

Last, but certainly not least, we ride on from rugged Tasman shores southeast to Christchurch's refined cultivation. As no trip is complete without a grand finale, our route takes us up through rainforest gorges to the spectacular Arthur's Pass, the highest through the Southern Alps range. Get a close look at Devil's Punchbowl Waterfall on your way towards and through the beech forests east of the pass. We celebrate our return to Christchurch with a final toast and a farewell dinner to seal our newfound camaraderie. Stay in Christchurch.

DAY 15 - Christchurch - Departure Day

All good things must come to an end, though not necessarily on our terms! Head on home, or strike out on the next leg of your adventure. Look at you in the mirror, living the dream.
