This Northern Patagonia motorcycle tour encompasses a 2,000 km loop through the Lakes District in Argentina and Chile. It features an amazing amount of variety, in a country rich with lakes, rivers and forests. You will ride parts of the Panamerican Highway, stay on the Chilean Island of Chiloe, and cross the Andes Mountains range two times. You will get to explore the recreational hub of Bariloche and San Martin de Los Andes. This is an ideal adventure for those who do not mind riding a little dirt to get to out of the way naturally beautiful destinations in the heart of the Lakes District in Northern Patagonia.

Road Conditions: This motorcycle adventure features paved and dirt surfaces. 40% of the Itinerary is on gravel surface. It is not techincal riding, just dirt roads winding through gorgeous countryside.

ARRIVAL DAY

DAY 1 - Arrival Day Arrive in Osorno, Chile, relax and get accustomed to the southern hemisphere with a Pisco Sour. Welcome dinner this evening.

DAY 2 - Osorno, Chile to Puerto Varas, Chile. 150 miles

Ride along the shores of the Chile's largest fresh-water lake, Lanquihue before exploring the volcano Mt Osorno. End the afternoon riding up to Petrohue Falls before arriving in Puerto Varas. Stay on Puerto Varas, Chile.

DAY 3 - Free Day in Puerto Varas, Chile. Up to 200 miles

Start your motorcycle journey today on the Pan American Highway along the shores of the Gulf of Ancud with a view of Chiloe Island. Take a short ferry ride before heading inland next to the fiord filled Reloncavi Estuary. The route enters the Lanquihue National Park before circling back to Puerto Varas. Mountains, protected ocean coves, and large fresh water lakes are the order of the day. Stay in Puerto Varas, Chile.

DAY 4 - Puerto Varas, Chile to Chiloe Island Up to 150 miles

A short ferry ride takes us off the mainland to Chile’s second largest island “Chiloe”. Here we can search for the fabled “duendes” (dwarfs) known to inhabit this island in the mystical folklore. There are plenty of pastoral views into the waters of the gulf. Ride across the beach to get to the nights Cabins located near a “Pinguineria” or penguin rookery right on the ocean. You may opt to take a boat out to the penguin colony in the afternoon. Stay on Chiloe Island.

DAY 5 - Puerto Varas, Chile to Puyehue, Chile 180 miles

More great roads, lakes and volcanoes await you today as you make your way to Puyehue. Ride along the large lakes as you make your way towards the border of Argentina at a thermal hot springs destination. Stay in Puyehue, Chile.

DAY 6 - Puyehue, Chile to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. Up to 200 miles

Cross the Andes into Argentina today by a road made for motorcycling! Our destination today is San Carlos de Bariloche, known as the "Switzerland" of Argentina. For extra credit, ride the Llao Llao loop west of the city. Stay in Bariloche, Argentina.

DAY 7 - Free Day, San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

There are many options today. You can stroll the streets of Bariloche, relax, or go riding. You may want to do a side activity such as horse back riding, fly fishing or river rafting. For those who want to explore on two wheels, you may ride out to the epic Tronador Volcano - a day never to be forgotten! Stay in Bariloche.

DAY 8 - San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina to San Martin de los Andes, Argentina Up to 180 miles

Ride the back roads of the famed "Lakes District" of Northern Patagonia on the Argentinian side today. Dirt and paved roads meander through heavily forested, mountainous landscapes and along large, clear lakes. Stay in San Martin de los Andes, Argentina.

DAY 9 - San Martin de los Andes, Argentina to Conaripe, Chile 220 miles

Ride towards Pucon, Chile, and experience the rare Araucaria forest. Known as the "Monkey Puzzle" Tree, this is one of the few places in the world they grow in the wild. Ride by stunning Villarica Volcano. Stay at a thermal hot springs hotel tonight, nestled in the forest. Stay at Conaripe, Chile.

DAY 10 - Conaripe, Chile to Osorno, Chile. 190 miles

Enjoy your last day in the Chilean Lakes District, riding the back roads though farmlands, past rivers, lakes and in site of volcanoes. Farewell dinner this evening. Stay in Osorno, Chile
