IndoChina Motorcycle Adventure

Ride for 15 days from Hanoi, Vietnam to Vientiane, Laos on two different motorcycles!


Tour Details

Road Conditions

Paved mostly. Some gravel sections due to no pavement or road construction or wash outs. The paved roads are generally 1.5 lanes wide and are in good condition. Lots and lots of curves. Some of the dirt sections may have a mild stream crossing. Nothing too technical.

Lodgings

Ranges from elegant hotels to nice bungalows, to rustic settings. Be prepared to have a real adventure with no frills one of the nights. Mostly, the accommodations are nice, and in unique spots. One night is a unique "Home Stay".

Ride through the hectic streets of Hanoi on a Vintage Vespa duruing the Hanoi City Tour. Experience incredible sights and sounds of Vietnam's vibrant capital city.  Stay in Hanoi. (B)

Dien Bien Phu - Muang Khua - Nong Khiew

Today we board a bus and cross the Vietnam/Laos Border. Arrive at the trading post of Muang Khua and get on a long boat and head down the Nam Ou River. Enjoy breathtaking scenery and take in the river life for the day. Stay in Nong Khiaw. (B)

Nong Khiaw - Luang Prabang 100 km

Pick up Honda XR 250s and ride to the World Heritage City of Luang Prabang. Enjoy the night market, stroll around town, or do an outride to a variety of waterfalls. Stay in Luang Prabang. (B)

Stay in Luang Prabang up to 100 km

Enjoy Luang Prabang, a city enshrouded in tranquility and history. Ride out to a number of waterfalls. Enjoy a boat ride on the famous Mekong River. Catch up on internet, and cruise the night market once more. Stay in Luang Prabang. (B)

Ride to the capital city of Laos. Explore the city from the Banks of the Mekong River to the eclectic city market.  Stay in Vientiane. (B)

Note: This tour departs the same day clients fly out of Vientiane from the Indochina tour.

The bikes will be the same ones used on the IndoChina Adventure with a quick service in Vientiane if needed.

Day 1: 

Vientiane to Phou Khoun

Lunch Blue Lagoon – ride on.

Rest and relax in Phou Khoun (B)

Beer Lao

Day 2: 

Phou Khoun ‐ Phonsavan

4 hour AM ride to Phonsavan.  

Lunch/ visit hotel to drop of gear – Visit Plain of Jars #1, #2, and #3 sites.  

PM visit to MAG.  

Overnight in Phonsavan. (B)

Day 3: 

Phonsavan Area Touring

Full AM ride, north of Phonsavan

-experience remote Jar sites/LS Air America. 

After lunch, ride east to Tam Piew Cave and return to Phonsvan (B)

Day 4: 

Phonsavan – Vientiane via Thathom

Long ride day – 380 km.

This activity is not included in the tour package.

  • Bring Credit Card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express.
  • Bring Debit Cards or Check Cards that work at ATMs for Withdrawing Cash. This is the most efficient way of getting local CASH.  Visa and PLUS System seem to be the most recognized. A MASTERCARD ATM card is also valuable.
  • Always bring at least $500 AMERICAN CASH in clean bills

Things to Bring:

Plan to ride in 40f to 95f degree weather.
Plan for rain (it is statistically the dry season)

Bring riding gear that is warm and waterproof (a riding suit with pads is best).

Riding suit, top and bottom, with pads. Have something that is waterproof, or bring an outer waterproof layer for rainy days.

Our guides use the MotoQuest Guide Jacket and MotoQuest Guide Pants by Olympia MotoSports, designed for all conditions. These suits are fitted for men.

For Women we recommend:

Also bring:

Stout water-proof boots, rain gear, a warm hat, rain-proof gloves (2 pair), hiking shoes, bug spray, lots of underwear, fleece layers, full-faced helmet, swim suit, and a good camera are the things you need on the trail.

Riding in Vietnam and Laos:

  • No headlights during the day unless foggy. (against the law)
  • Keep to your side of the road on Corners
  • Bring something to put over  seat of the Honda. For your comfort!
  • WATCH OUT: pigs, chickens, turkeys, cows, children, tractors, water buffaloes, on roadway!!!

Arrival day:

Send us your travel information so we know when and where to meet you. Please be prepared to show your current motorcycle drivers license.

Gear:
